About Our Manuals
What we do at Schutt Log Homes Schutt Log Homes is a small family-owned company that focuses on ways to help average people build quality Oak log cabins. By keeping our company small in size, we are able to keep our overhead low and pass the savings on to our customers. We create kit cabins to be assembled by our customers. We ship material in common lengths, final cuts are made by the builder. Each one of our kit cabins comes with a detailed timber construction manual. This manual is designed to guide the average person through the process of building a log home. Our manual includes step by step instructions for building technics, the timber layout, building walls, window and door bucks, ridge beam and rafter placement, how to properly attach logs and rafters, the process for building the roof, shiplap installation, second floor floor joists, stairs and railing construction, chamfering, and a lot more. Our manual does not include basement or foundation layout, plumbing, electrical or HVAC schematics. These systems are best laid out by the installers. This gives our customers great flexibility on where outlets, lighting, vents, bathroom fixtures are placed in the home. We encourage our customers to price check every aspect of construction. Tons of deals are out there for the people who look. We do not include windows, doors, roofing, electrical, plumbing, or hardware in our kits for a reason. These items can generally be purchased for bargain prices locally to the construction site. Everyone has their own expectations for window and door sizes and designs. Hitting seasonal sales can mean huge savings on fixtures and hardware. We believe big money can be saved using local labor and technicians also. Most people have a friend who has a friend who does plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc. When your building your Oak log cabin kit is the time to call in favors and barter. With good planning and being diligent with bargain shopping, our kits can be built for a fraction of the price of most standard homes.
